Jonathan Dee was my teacher in Russia. And lately, I’ve been teaching, and thinking about my old teachers while I put in hours and hours and hours teaching fiction. I’ve been teaching to beginners, people who are just learning about the very tinsy beginnings of making a story. And like some new radical textbook of ABSOLUTELY PERFECTLY FUCKING CRAFTED FICTION I want to read these students long passages from Jonathan Dee’s new book, “The Privileges.” I’m so into this right now because 1. it is a glorious soap opera that turns heady and 2. it is about young rich miserable perfect people. Here’s to the New Yorkers that rule the planet.
